2-5-52: Jet-engined aircraft First Commercial

 Exactly 60 years ago, the first jet-engine commercial airplane in the world, De Havilland Comet 1, start services from London (England) to Johannesburg (South Africa).

BBC television website said, the audience cheered as the aircraft with engine BOAC Comet G-ALYP took off from London airport at 15:12 local time carrying 36 passengers.

Comet 1's debut marks the beginning of the era of commercial flights using jet engines as well as technological innovation is the achievement of the UK.
Flights from London to Johannesburg it is nearly 7,000 miles and takes about 23 hours 40 minutes. During the flight, the plane stopped Comet 1 in five cities, namely Rome, Beirut, Khartoum, Entebbe and Livingstone.

During the first year serving the commercial aviation, comets carry 30 000 passengers. This includes a number of prominent figures, namely Queen Elizabeth II along with his mother and his sister, Princess Margaret.

Following decades, Comet produced in several series. However, after experiencing a number of fatal accidents, Comet end production of the aircraft on March 14, 1997, the last Comet 4C XS235 series.
